DMSO – Dimethyl Sulfoxide

Sounds chemical – but is natural

In the world of natural and regulatory medicine, there are substances that have been researched for decades yet largely remain under the public's radar. One of them is dimethyl sulfoxide – or DMSO for short. Although the name sounds like a chemical laboratory, it is a substance that also occurs in nature and is formed from natural sulfur compounds produced, among other things, by marine organisms, which then enter the water cycle via the atmosphere. DMSO is liquid at room temperature, colorless, and possesses an extraordinary ability: it can penetrate biological barriers and is absorbed very quickly by the body. This very property made it an intensively researched substance in medicine and biochemistry as early as the 1960s and 1970s. At that time, its anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and cell-protective properties, among others, were discovered.

A substance with character – even in its smell

Those who use DMSO often notice a peculiar side effect: an unusual odor can emanate from breath and skin for one to two days. This is a consequence of the body's own breakdown of the substance and varies from person to person. It cannot be completely prevented but can often be mitigated – for example, by chlorophyll-rich foods, herbs, lemon, or certain essential oils. In naturopathic practice, DMSO is often combined with various active ingredients – such as plant extracts, minerals, or other regulatory substances.

Also valued as an extraction agent

In addition to direct application, DMSO is also used as a high-quality extraction agent in naturopathy. It can effectively dissolve ingredients from plants, resins, or other natural substances – such as from roots, bark, leaves, flowers, or even propolis.

Ingestion and application

3 times, 5–10 drops daily with water. Start with less DMSO in the first week and then increase to 10 drops.

Open skin areas: drip on 35% DMSO solution
