Positive effects on health
D-galactose is a simple sugar found in milk – bound as lactose – as well as in fruits and vegetables. The body of a healthy adult also produces galactose itself in an amount of 1–2 grams per day. Galactose has the great advantage over glucose (dextrose) that the body can utilize it as an energy-rich sugar independently of the secretion of the diabetes hormone insulin. In the human body, D-galactose fulfills a number of important functions, e.g. as a component of many proteins (so-called glycoproteins) and as a basic building block of all cell walls.
Fast energy boost also for diabetes
Galactose is also frequently used as an energy source in periods of low performance or during sports. This is because galactose is metabolized without the blood sugar fluctuations typical of normal sugar, which can cause cravings and/or fatigue. It also serves as food for intestinal bacteria and supports a healthy intestinal flora. Since galactose does not require insulin to enter cells, it is an important energy source, especially in diseases associated with insulin resistance or insulin deficiency (Type 1 and 2 diabetes, depression, Parkinson's or Alzheimer's).
How is galactose used?
The daily dose is 100 mg per kg body weight, which corresponds to approximately 1 teaspoon of galactose three times a day, which is 5 to 8 grams. Galactose can be mixed into drinks (water, tea, soy milk). It is more soluble in warm liquids (not hot). It can be mixed into yogurt, desserts, muesli, smoothies and cocktails. It does not tolerate heat well and should therefore not be used for cooking or baking. Galactose tastes slightly sweet.

Experiences
“I initially tried galactose because I felt I was becoming mentally slower and slower. After several weeks of regular intake, I subjectively had the impression that my mental clarity was returning. I am more structured in my thinking, less distracted, and overall more mentally resilient.”
“For me, intestinal health was the priority. Since I incorporated galactose into my daily life, I have the impression that my intestinal flora has stabilized. Digestion has become calmer.”
“As a diabetic, I pay close attention to how my body reacts to different sugars. Galactose has the advantage for me that it hardly affects my blood sugar. Compared to other types of sugar, I find it significantly more balanced.”
“What I particularly noticed was the effect on my daytime fatigue. I often had a strong slump in performance at midday. Since taking galactose, I feel more awake and stable during the day.”
